Origin and history.
Fire agate is a translucent quartz variety. Unlike the “normal” agate, this kind has beautiful iridescent colors on the inside. Fire agate contains limonite particles, also known as iron ore. The colors in fire agate can vary from red, blue, green and orange. Fire agate is polished the most popular, because then the beautiful colors are best visible.

Agate is usually formed in volcanic gas bladders. Agate gets its name from the Latin word ‘achates’, its first founding place. The Achates is a river in Sicily. Agate has been used for centuries by the Egyptians in cylinder seals and jewelry, and by the Greeks in works of art. Agate is quite easy to work with and this makes it very popular to this day. Agate is found all over the world and isn’t a very rare mineral. The most popular fire agate comes from Mexico, but it is also found in other countries.
