Origin and history.
Opal is a quartz variety that is often translucent and can contain almost all colors. There are different types of opals. Precious opal contains mother-of-pearl paintings and belongs to the most expensive type of opal. Water opal has a milky sheen and contains a lot of water. All other types of opal fall into the “common opal” category. This mexican fire opal falls into the precious opal category. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word úpala, which means jewel. Opal has been popular for centuries, but was the most favored by the Romans.
