Origin and history.
Malachite is a green opaque mineral which is found in pseudomorphic growth and also raw with long crystals. With a pseudomorphic growth it has  a nice striped pattern when you polish it. This is the kind you find in carvings and jewelry. If you cut malachite in half, you will see eye-shaped patterns. The kind that is referred to as `fiber malachite´, has a shiny pattern and sometimes an optical glow. Sometimes you see some pseudomorphic growth on those as well, but these raw pieces aren’t suitable for polishing. Fiber malachite is way more rare and expensive and is only found in Congo.

Malachite was already used in Neanderthal times and has always been attributed to the goddesses. It has been considered a woman’s stone for centuries. The beautiful green colors in malachite are caused by a high copper content. This also makes the stone very vulnerable. For example, sweat, perfume and soap can cause damage and quickly pull into the stone. 

Unfortunately, there is a lot of imitation of malachite in circulation, especially in jewelry / beads. So always pay attention when you purchase processed malachite. The easiest thing is to look at the weight. Is a bracelet / necklace very lightweight, like normal beads? Then you can actually assume that you have an imitation in your hands. Real malachite is heavy in weight, also in sharpened form such as beads.

Malachite is found in Australia, Norway, Congo, Namibia, America, Switzerland, Elba, Zambia and Brazil.

Possible healing properties.
Malachite is a powerful stone, especially for women. For that reason, it is often called the women’s stone. Malachite strengthens empathy and gives insight into others and yourself. It helps you to be able to oversee the situation well. Malachite reduces inhibitions and shame and can bring out repressed feelings.

Malachite promotes intuition and the ability to visualize. The stone absorbs negative energy and protects against negative energy. Malachite is great to carry with you when you come into contact with people and / or spaces with a heavy energy.*
