Origin and history.
Agate is a quartz varity that in itself has many types. You can recognize agate by its typical banded pattern. Agate is usually formed in volcanic gas bladders. Agate gets its name from the Latin word ‘achates’, its first founding place. The Achates is a river in Sicily. Agate has been used for centuries by the Egyptians in cylinder seals and jewelry, and by the Greeks in works of art. Agate is quite easy to work with and this makes it very popular to this day. Agate is found all over the world and isn’t a very rare mineral.

Agate has a very grounding function. It brings you back to the roots and strengthens your connection with mother earth. It gives a feeling of warmth and security. Agate helps to create order in the chaos and to regain overview. Physically people like to use agate to sleep deeper. – In the Middle Ages people thought that you could ward off storms with agate. For this you had to use the agate as an amulet.
