Agate gets its name from the Latin word ‘achates’, its first founding place. The Achates is a river in Sicily. Agate has been used for centuries by the Egyptians in cylinder seals and jewelry, and by the Greeks in works of art. Agate is quite easy to work with and this makes it very popular to this day. Agate is found all over the world and isn’t a very rare mineral.
